Small crochet flowers can become more than decorative motifs when they are arranged at different lengths and attached to a useful finish. This crochet keychain combines a large rose, medium rose, and small rosebud so the finished bunch has a fuller, layered appearance instead of looking flat.
The roses are worked as simple petal strips and then rolled into shape, while the green calyxes create the stems and support each crochet flower. The most important finishing step comes when the three stems are gathered through the top cap, because their different lengths determine how the roses hang from the key ring.

Simple and Elegant Crochet Rose Keychain Pattern
Make the Large Rose
The large rose forms the fullest flower in the bunch. Its petal strip is created first and then rolled into a spiral, so the final shape comes from how the strip is wound and secured rather than from crocheting the flower directly in the round.
Base Chain: Make a slip knot and ch 19.
Row 1: Skip 4 ch, which counts as 1 dc + 1 ch, then work 1 dc in the 5th ch from the hook. Skip 1 ch, [dc, ch 1, dc] in the next ch; repeat across to the end.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn. Work 5 dc in the first ch-1 space, then 1 sc in the next space. Work 5 dc in the next ch-1 space, sc 1 in the following space; repeat until you have 8 petals.
Finishing: Ch 3, sl st, then ch 1. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembly: Thread the long tail onto a tapestry needle. Roll the crocheted strip into a rose shape and use stitches underneath to secure the base. Fasten off and trim the excess yarn.
Make the Medium Rose
The medium flower uses the same basic petal formation as the large rose, but its shorter foundation creates a smaller bloom.
Base Chain: Make a slip knot and ch 15.
Row 1: Skip 4 ch, then work 1 dc in the 5th ch from the hook. Skip 1 ch, [dc, ch 1, dc] in the next ch; repeat across.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn. Work 5 dc in the same space, then sc 1. Work 5 dc in the next space, sc 1; repeat until you have 6 petals.
Finishing: Ch 3, sl st, then ch 1. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
Assembly: Roll the strip into a rose and use the long tail to sew the base securely.
Form the Small Rosebud
The smallest flower works as a rosebud within the bunch. Use the same basic method as the medium rose, but use a shorter foundation chain and fewer petals to create the smaller shape shown in the tutorial.
Base Chain: Make a smaller foundation chain than the medium rose.
Rows: Follow the same petal-building method used for the medium rose, stopping after approximately 4–5 petals.
Finishing: Leave a long tail and roll the strip into a compact bud. Sew through the base to hold the shape securely.
Rose Shape Check
Before moving to the green pieces, check each rolled flower from the front. The petal strip should stay gathered at the base while the upper edges remain visible as separate layers. If the roll loosens, add a few securing stitches underneath before attaching the calyx.
Crochet the Large Leaf Calyx and Stem
The first green piece provides a long stem and a five-pointed calyx for the large rose.
Stem Chain: Ch 30.
Petal 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, work sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc.
Petals 2–5: Ch 6, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, work sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc; repeat until you have 5 calyx petals.
Join: Slip stitch into each petal base to pull the petals together, then sl st and ch 1. Fasten off.
Make the Medium Leaf Calyx
The medium calyx uses the same five-petal sequence with a longer stem chain.
Stem Chain: Increase the end of the thread as shown in the tutorial, then ch 60.
Petals 1–5: For each petal, ch 6, then starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, work sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc. Repeat until 5 petals are complete.
Join: Slip stitch the petal bases together, then sl st and ch 1. Fasten off.
Add the Small Leaf Base
The smallest green piece provides the short stem for the rosebud.
Stem Chain: Ch 20.
Finish: Pass the stem through the top cap as shown in the tutorial, then tie and secure it.
Crochet the Green Top Cap
The cap gathers the three flower stems together and provides the attachment point for the key ring.
Round 1: Make a MR, ch 1, work 5 sc in the ring, then sl st to the first sc. (5 sts)
Round 2: Ch 1, sc 1, inc; repeat 5 times, then sl st to the first sc. (10 sts)
Rounds 3–5: Ch 1, work sc in each stitch around, then sl st to the first sc. (10 sts)
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in the first stitch. In the next stitch, work hdc, dc, Tr, dc, hdc. Work sc in the next stitch. Repeat this sequence around to create 5 small points. Sl st to the first sc, ch 1, cut the yarn, and weave in the ends.
Attach the Roses to the Calyxes
Each rose is paired with a green calyx according to its size.
- Apply hot glue to the leaf side of the appropriate calyx.
- Press the large rose onto the long-stem calyx.
- Attach the medium rose to the middle-stem calyx.
- Attach the small rosebud to the short-stem calyx.
- Hold each flower in place until the glue has set securely.
The calyx should sit directly underneath the flower rather than too far to one side, because it forms the transition between the rose and its stem.
Bring the Three Stems Together
Once all three roses are attached, gather their stems beneath the green cap.
- Thread all three flower stems upward through the bottom center of the top green cap.
- Pull the stems through until the flowers hang at staggered lengths.
- Adjust the flowers so the large, medium, and small blooms remain visually separated.
- Knot the stems together securely inside or above the cap.
The different stem lengths are what give the finished keychain its small bouquet effect, so check their arrangement before making the final knot.
Add the Key Ring
The final step turns the flower bunch into a functional keychain.
Pass the top loop through the metal key ring and pull it through securely. Check that the cap and gathered stems remain firmly attached before trimming any remaining yarn.
Final Finishing Check
Before using the keychain, check that:
- Each rose is firmly secured at its base.
- The calyxes are attached to the correct flower sizes.
- The three stems are tightly gathered beneath the cap.
- The flowers hang at staggered lengths.
- The top loop is securely connected to the metal key ring.
- Any loose yarn ends are hidden or trimmed.
- The glued flower bases are firmly set.
