Letter T Keychain
Letter T is built from separate top-bar and stem pieces before two completed T layers are made. Working the pieces separately makes it easier to keep the horizontal bar and vertical stem properly aligned.
Use your Main Color yarn and the hook suited to your yarn.
Make the Top Bars
You will need 2 identical top-bar pieces, one for each layer of the finished T.
Top Bar: Make a slip knot and ch 11; starting in the second chain from the hook, work 10 dc across the chain, then finish with a slst.
Fasten off, leaving a tail, and secure the ends. Repeat to make the second identical top-bar piece.
Add the Vertical Stem
The stem is worked from another foundation chain and joined to the center area of the top bar. Pay attention to the two skipped stitches because this placement determines where the vertical section sits on the T.
Stem: Make a slip knot and ch 11, then work 10 dc down the chain.
Skip 2 stitches on the top-bar foundation piece and join the stem to the center with a slst. Continue working down the side, pivot at the base, and work back up to complete the vertical stem structure.
Fasten off and weave in or secure the ends.
Repeat the same process until you have 2 identical completed T pieces, ready to become the front and back layers of the keychain.
Letter O Keychain
Letter O uses a different starting shape because its center must remain open. Begin with a chain joined into a circle, then use the increase sequence around that ring to create the oval-shaped letter.
Use your Main Color yarn and make 2 identical O pieces.
Form the O Ring
Foundation: Make a slip knot and ch 30, then join with a slst to the first chain to form a closed circle.
Keep the chain ring flat before starting the first round. This helps the stitches follow the intended oval path instead of twisting the foundation.
Shape the O
The first round expands around the chain ring using double crochet and increases. The increases are concentrated around the curved sections so the finished piece maintains an even oval shape.
Round 1: Ch 2, work 2 dc in the next stitch (dc2inc), then continue around the ring using the supplied sequence of 8 dc, increases, and side groups to maintain the even oval shape; continue working around the complete loop, join with a slst, and fasten off.
The supplied tutorial uses a specific curvature and increase sequence around the ring, so follow its stitch placement and count sequence closely rather than adding extra increases. The completed piece should form a solid oval ring with a clear opening through the center.
Repeat the same process to make 2 identical O pieces.
Join Each Letter into Two Layers
Once both T pieces and both O pieces are complete, pair the matching pieces together. Keep the front and back layers aligned flat so their outer edges meet evenly.
The contrasting white yarn is introduced during this stage, giving each finished letter a clean border while also holding its two layers together.
Edge the Letter T
Place the two T layers directly against each other. Using the White contrast yarn, join with a slst and work slsts all around the outer edges of the T.
Work evenly around the horizontal bar and vertical stem so the two layers stay aligned. Avoid pulling the edging too tightly, as excessive tension can make the letter edges curl.
Fasten off and weave in the loose ends when the entire outer edge has been joined.
Edge the Letter O
Align the two O pieces in the same way. Use the White contrast yarn to join the layers with slsts around the outer edge and the inner loop of the O.
Working around the inner opening is important because it gives the O its finished outlined appearance and secures the two layers around both edges.
Continue around the complete shape, then fasten off and weave in the remaining tails.
Attach the Keychain Hardware
With the letter layers securely joined, choose the topmost suitable stitches for attaching the hardware. A letter O, for example, can have the attachment placed through the top stitches.
Secure a jump ring and keychain chain through the selected top stitches, then connect the keychain ring.
Check the attachment before using the keychain. The hardware should pass securely through the crocheted stitches rather than catching only a loose yarn strand.
Finish the Letter Keychains
Weave in all remaining yarn tails with a tapestry needle and trim them cleanly. If you used synthetic yarn and choose to secure the ends with heat, use the lighter carefully and only as needed.
