The flower is built around a small center base and five puff-stitch petals, then finished with a separately sewn center in a second color. That center does more than add contrast-it neatly covers the joined yarn tails underneath, while the long loop gives you the choice of adding a metal clasp or securing the crochet flower directly to a bag strap.

- Yarn: 2 colors of T-shirt yarn – Color A for the petals and Color B for the center.
- Hook: 6 mm crochet hook.
- Tapestry needle: Choose one with an eye large enough to accommodate the thicker T-shirt yarn.

Before You Begin
T-shirt yarn is much thicker than ordinary crochet yarn, so the finished flower will have a substantial, slightly firm feel. That makes it especially suitable for a bag charm that needs to hold its shape and handle regular use.
The magic circle is the first place worth paying attention to. Once the 10 single crochets are worked into it, pull the tail firmly so the center closes completely before joining the round. A loose center will leave an unwanted opening beneath the petals.

How to Make the Puff Stitch
YO, insert the hook into the stitch and pull up a loop to the height of a CH 2. YO, insert the hook into the same stitch and pull up another loop. Repeat once more so you have 7 loops on the hook. YO and pull through all 7 loops to complete the puff stitch.
Crochet Flower Bag Charm Pattern
Round 1: Center Base – 10 SC
Make a magic circle, keeping the working yarn positioned correctly, then CH 1 to secure the loop; work 10 SC into the magic circle, pull the tail firmly to close the center completely, and SL ST into the very first SC to join the round. Stitch count: 10 SC.
Round 2: Five Petals
Each petal uses two stitches from the previous round, so keep an eye on the stitch you are working into as you move around the center: CH 2, PUFF in the next SC, CH 2, SL ST in the next SC; repeat this sequence 4 more times to make 5 petals total, then for the final SL ST of the fifth petal, join into the SL ST from Round 1. Stitch count: 5 petals.
The spacing here determines how evenly the five petals sit around the center. If one petal looks unusually close to or far from the previous one, check that the slip stitch was made into the correct next SC before continuing.
Create the Hanging Loop
The same yarn used for the petals forms the attachment loop, so there is no separate strap to make afterward.
Pull the loop on your hook upward until it is long enough for the completed flower to pass through it. Cut the yarn, leaving a generous tail rather than cutting it close to the flower.
Before securing everything, pull the original magic-circle tail once more to make sure the center is fully closed. Tie the two tail ends together with a double knot. The knot does not need to look neat because it will be covered by the contrasting center.
Add the Contrasting Flower Center
Cut approximately 30–40 cm of Color B and thread it onto the tapestry needle. Hold the two tail ends from the petal section flat against the middle of the flower so they can be covered as you fill the center.
Bring the needle up through the spaces between the SC stitches from Round 1 and sew across the middle of the flower. Continue working through the SC spaces, moving around the center in an orderly or random pattern until the center looks full and the knot underneath is completely hidden.
There is no need to make every pass perfectly uniform. The important point is to build enough coverage to create a solid-looking center while keeping the underlying knot and tails out of sight.
When the center is filled, weave the remaining ends back and forth underneath the center stitches on the back of the flower to secure them. Trim away the excess yarn.
Choose How to Attach Your Flower
The finished charm gives you two simple attachment choices, depending on how you want to use it.
With a metal clip: Thread a metal clip or clasp through the long yarn loop and attach it to your bag.
Directly on the bag strap: Wrap the long loop around the bag strap, then pull the entire flower through the loop. Tighten it gently so the flower stays securely in place without stretching the yarn excessively.
A Quick Shape Check
Before attaching the charm, spread the five petals gently with your fingers. They should sit around the center without being heavily folded over one another. Because T-shirt yarn is thick, a small adjustment by hand can make the puff stitches look much more defined.
